Aucklander in Ladies’ Golf Final
MISS CULLING’S WIN TO MEET MRS. COLLINSON CSpecial to THE SUN.') PALMERSTON N.. To-day. Auckland 1, has a chance of winning the golfing double and adidng the New Zealand Ladies’ Golf Championship title to that of the men’s title already held in the Northern city. To-day Miss E. Culling, of Middlemore. beat Miss M. Payton, of Rotorua, on the last green. 1 up. The other Aucklander in the semi-finals, Miss Upton, was put out, 5 and 4, by Mrs. Collinson, the Manawatu player. There was a strong wind. The Culling-Payton match aroused keen interest, play being very even. At the turn Miss Culling was one up and she maintained this advantage. With two holes to play she was two up. Miss Payton won the next hole in four to Miss Culling’s five and the final hole was halved in five, one over bogey, the game ending in Miss Culling’s favour, one up. The Collinson-Upton match provided another good exhibition of golf in which an advantage gained in the first half resulted in the Manawatu player, who was four up at the turn, maintaining her advantage, and enabling her to win, five and four. Beating her own record figures made last Friday, Miss O. Kay (Dunedin) yesterday, put up a new record for the local links with a brilliant card of 75. Her card read: Out: 445 265 533—37. In: 543 544 544—38. In the competition for the Donnelly Cup there was a tie between Mrs. Sim and Mrs. R. G. Guy, both of Manawatu. Miss Ivay took the Mellsop Cup with the highest aggregate for three medal rounds, 241. Auckland A won the provincial teams’ match, the scores being: Mrs. Deighton, 84; Miss Payton, 83; Miss Horton, 89; Miss Culling, 85; total, 341. The Wellington A team was second with 344. One Tree Hill Ladies Following were the best cards returned in the ladies’ golf union medal match, played by members of the Maungakiekie Ladies’ Golf Club at the One Tree Hill links yesterday: Seniors. —Miss Churton, 110, 20—90; Miss Stubbs, 105, 14—91; Mrs. Horton, 107, 15 —92. Juniors. —Mrs. Russell, 99, 21 —78; Mrs. White, 103, 23—80; Mrs. Robinson, 111, 29—82. The Saturday match was won by Miss Barnes, 97, 19—78. , Next Tuesday a medal match will be played, shield conditions, for a trophy presented by Miss A. Grove. Entries close on Friday. Auckland Ladies The monthly medal match played by members of the Auckland Ladies’ Golf Club yesterday resulted: Seniors. —Miss H. Cutfield, 91, 17— 74; Mrs. Ferguson, 89, 12—77; Mrs. Rutherford, 94, 14—80. Juniors. —Mrs. Watson, 113, 36—77; Mrs. Pugh, 102, 22—80. A three-rounds eclectic match for trophies presented by Miss Horton will be commenced next Tuesday. Entries will close on Friday. Owing to insufficient entries, the C grade arranged for Friday has been abandoned. Street, Barraclough v. Rowntree. N.Z. Association. The monthly meeting of the New Zealand Golf Council was held on Monday’. The chief business of the meeting was the consideration of Mr. Redhead’s report on the Balmacewan links at Dunedin, with a view to holding the 1928 championships there. Mr. Redhead attended the meeting and discussed the report fully with the council, and it was eventually decided to ask the club whether it is prepared to have certain specified alterations made to two of the holes, and whether they’ could assure that the course would be reads’ for play by the middle of October, 1928. ' It was resolved to hold the professionals’ autumn tournament on the Highfield links, Timaru, the professionals having expressed a wish to have it there, and the club being willing. The tournament will be held in February next. It was resolved to grant £SO toward the cost of trophies for the ladies’ championship tournament this year. KIRK-WINDEYER CUP It was definitely decided that the KirkWindeyer matches shall be played on one of the Wellington courses (subject to the club's approval) in the third week in January. In view of the large number of Australian visitors likely to be coming over with .the team, it has been arranged to send over full particulars of tariffs and cost of travelling in New Zealand.

In the English women’s golf championship at Harrogate, in the second round, Mrs. Richardson defeated Miss Shirley Tolhurst, of the Metropolitan Club of Australia, 1 up, and M.rs.
