BOARD PUTS FOOT DOWN “If a teacher’s residence is not for a teacher to live in, what on earth is it :;or?” was a question which appealed to the Auckland Education Board today. ‘ lin future successful applicants for schools which have residences will not be allowed to let them. The chairman, Mr. A. Burns, said that there were 200 teachers-*’ houses not oc3upied by teachers in the Dominion, although only seven were in Auckland. Many teachers with wives and families would be only too willing to get houses. Teachers could not be compelled to live in teachers’ residences, but they should not be allowed to let them. A proviso to that effect should be made in the advertisements for future provision. The chairman’s suggestion was ad opted. ________________
