NOTES AND COMMENTS
DOINGS AT EPSOM TRACKS IN FINE ORDER THE various tracks at Alaxanri.. A „ Pa ; k have not been excellent condition for tra r‘ operations for many months a* the! are at present Yesterday morn' ing the main training circuit to gether with the sand and jooaino tracks, were in splendid order. Th. hard crust which was causino niu.k concern to seme train.ri, duri„, the week-end was well broken u 3 and owners and t-aine-s com' mented in favourable terms on th general condition of the tracks.* Although the climatic and track con ditions were ideal, and there good muster of horses, the majorit? of trainers were content to -estrici their charges to jogging or half-naS work. There were a few exceptions however, some being unable to resist the temptation to bustle their eandi dates along on the inviting training track. Better Than He Looks
Though Speed King was not out against the clock, the big pacer strode along attractively, and he is fast com ing into racing trim. His ownertrainer, G. Stubbs, has put in a l o r of time with the Our Thorpe gelding and deserves to meet with success! He may not be quite ripe for the approaching fixture, but Ms turn wiU come in due time. His Turn Later
My Junior hit out over several circuits in a manner that demorstrated he is coming along the right way, also that he is standing well up to bis tasks. The son of Wildwood Junior has been nominated for the free-legged event on the second day of the spring fixture, but he will hardly be ready to run out a solid, two miles. The black trotter will get. his turn later on. Increasing the String Geo. Webb, the ex-Waikato trainer, has received an addition to his, string in the shape of a handsome two-year, old by Worthy Bond from a mam called Logan Grey. The colt, whioh is owned by a Waikato sportsman, is a real aristocrat in every respect, and if he does not turn out a success there will be something radically wrong. The Webb stable is getting a big one, but with Webb senior ?nd junior to attend to their wants the charges are being well cared for. Respect Looks Well Respect, who is nice and big, was given a few circuits at a steady pace, but was moving ginger’ y. Trainer Webb is nursing a suspicious- looking leg for the son of Gold Bell, but under Ills careful attention the pacer is standing up all right. Respect was never in more robust health, and when his mentor gets him thoroughly wound up there should be some good money coming his way. An Attractive Display Buz Buz (F. Young) and Lord Nepean (G. Webb) were associated in &> very pleasing work-out. both pacers showing fine form. Lord Nepean was pulling hard, and looked anxious to improve the pace, but the mare was doing her work in a genuine fashion. Both horses are very forward, and promise to strip in good condition on the day. They will be driven in their engagements by G. W<-bb. who is handling them nicely in t.heir tasks. Soon Be Ready Mulwaree Is daily getting through a. fair amount of work unhoppled, and the roan pacer is hitting out in a free and easy style. B. Dyer has the Honest Huon gelding in nice trim for speeding up, and there is no doubt lie will have liis charges well forward to contest short distance heats at the Auckland and Otahuhu fixtures. Dyer deserves to get a stake, as he is a persevering trainer.
