Grounds, of Hokianga, chairman of the Dairy Produce Board, is staying at the Star Hotel. The Rev. A. J. Beck has been eLected president of the Auckland Council of the Church of England Men’s Society. The Rev. E. C. Budd lias resigned the Anglican chaplaincy of Mount Eden gaol. Mr. J- J - Dougall, of Christchurch, who has been touring the Islands, returned by the Tofua this morning. Mr. R. Wood, of the Union Steam Ship Company, returned by the Tofua this morning.
Mr. J. Caughley, ex-Director of Education. returned by the Tofua this morning from a trip to the Islands.

Mr. P. B. Cooke, assistant-manager of the Union Steam Ship Company, Melbourne, arrived in Auckland tc-day by the Ulimaroa.
Captain J. G. Wales, of the Seiforth Highlanders, and Mrs. Wales, arrived by the Ulimaroa to-day from Svdney. They will pay a visit to relatives in Dunedin.
Mr. J. M. Gamble, of the Eastern Extension Cable Company, Singapore, arrived to-day from Sydney ty the Ulimaroa. Ke will spend a holiday with his father, Mr. W. M. Gam ole, of Takapuna.
The Misses M. and E. Cummins returned to Auckland from Sydney by the Ulimaroa to-day.
Mr. O. Lewis, a London barrister, arrived by the Tofua this morning He is on a 12 months’ tour of the world and wili spend some time in New Zealand.
Messrs. F. W. Lucas, V. C. Butler and A. Knight, Auckland representative Rugby footballers, left last evening for Wellington, where they will participate in to-morrow’s All Black trial snatch, the last of the series.
The Ven. J. Awdry Julius, Archdeacon of Timaru and Westland, who has been appointed Dean of Christchurch in succession to Dean Carrington, will be installed In November. The new dean Is a son of the former Primate, Archbishop Julius. Dr. Franklin Kidd, officer in charge of the cool storage station at Cambridge University, England, is staying at the Star Hotel. He is Investigating cool storage facilities in New Zealand, and will present a report on his findings to the Government. Mrs. Tarbeyeff-Benge arrived from Sydney by the Ulimaroa to-day, accompanied by her brother, Mr. George Tarbeyeff. who is a son of the late General Tarbeyeff, a Russian officer who settled in Wellington some years ago.
