PAKURANGA HUNT CLUB
DANCE AT PUHI NUI Set in the midst of the Puhi Xui Instate, the homestead of Mr. Wills McLaughlin was the scene of a gay party, on Saturday evening, when a social committee of the Pakuranga Hunt Club entertained the visiting huntsmen and their friends, who attended the Point-to-Point meeting held in the afternoon Situated over a mile from the road, the home is approached through a continuous avenue of towering pines, that make of themselves an entrance beautiful, to the old estate, which was one of the first homes of the Pakuranga hunt. Mr. W. McLaughlin, father of the present occupier of the estate, was one of the foundation members, and held the position of Master of Hounds to the club for over 25 years, in its infant days. Over 150 guests were present at the dance and spent a very jolly evening in dancing and song. Many old hunting choruses were revived by the older members of the club, and lent a verytopical tone to the assembly. The rooms were cleared for dancing, which was continued till the early hours of the morning, to the attractive music of the Frolic Dance Orchestra, whose numbers met with the unanimous approval of the gay throng. Mr. A. G. Quartley r kindly lent a beautiful collection of hunting trophies and photos of interest, connected with the hunt in its younger day's, and these were arranged in the drawing room, and were of quite a lot of interest to the present members. Mrs. W. McLaughlin received the guests wearing a handsome gown of two-toned pink charmeuse. Among those present were: Mrs. Quartley, in a handsome model frock of apricot chenille georgette. Mrs. C. Allen, powder blue georgette gown, with crystal embroideries. Mrs. W. Ranstead (Waikato), handsome gown of cherry red lame. Mrs. Grierson, smart gown of flesh pink brocaded satin. Miss Allen, gown of cardinal georgette, effectively embroidered in gold. Miss E. Martin, frock of mist blue georgette. Mrs. D. Gorrie, gown of Chinese red georgette. Miss Gladden, frock of cameo rose georgette With gold embroideries. Mrs. Ranstead (Waikato), gown of black crepe faille. Miss C. Martin, frock of black georgette. Miss Pabst, cream Guipure lace over shell pink, with dainty posy. Miss Molly Upton, frock of apple green georgette, with silver lace panels. Miss Betty Stokes, frock of ivory taffeta with silver motifs. MrSi P. H. Smith, smart gown of Wild rose georgette. Mrs. Lloyd, frock of Duchess blue cm* broidered georgette. 9 Miss Stokes, frock cf blush pink lame, with ermine trimmings. Mrs. Prior Williams, gown of black taffeta with French embroideries. Mrs. C. Self, Persian blue taffeta gown. Miss Lloyd, frock of op*!? blue georgette. Miss Nelson (Hawke’s Bay), frock of black georgette. Miss Kernot, Nile green crepe de chine frock, with trimmings of rose. Miss C. Wilson, frock of azure blue georgette. Miss Leighton, frock of rose du Barri georgette. Miss McCardle, frock of lettuce green crepe faille. Miss M. Peacock, black Chantilly* lace frock, relieved with rose. Miss Bullock-Webster, smart gown of lacquer red brocaded satin. Miss Brown, frock of cyclamen georgette. Mrs. T. Ranstead (Waikato), frock of flowered ninon. Miss Lloy r d, frock of powder blue beaded georgette. Miss P. Weston, frock of cherry red ninon with ivory embroidery.
