AUCKLAND SWIMMING

THE SECOND BEST CLUB MOUNT EDEN’S ANNUAL MEETING A sound financial position, and an ever-increasing membership, is the lot of the Mount Eden Amateur Swimming Club, and at its ninth annual meeting last night the highest hopes were entertained for a record season. Welcoming several ladies who were present, Mr. C. R. Surman, chairman, expressed the hope that now the Mount Eden ladies’ swimming club had disbanded, they would see more ladies joining up with the club. There had not been many ladies to join so far, but he was looking forward to the time when they would come along in force. He would call on Mrs. R. Dickenson, chairwoman of the ladies’ club, to present two handsome silver cups for club competition, presented by the ladies’ club. In a brief address, Mrs. Dickenson asked the club’s acceptance of the trophies, with the hope that they would be the means of stimulating competition among the members, both in the senior and junior grades. If the borough council w r ould grant the permit for mixed bathing the ladies xvould join in a body. The chairman expressed the thanks of the club for the trophies, and suggested that they should be competed for by the ladies, and as the ladies’ club had left the question to the committee, it would be settled at a later date.
