Stolen Timber. —Pleading guilty to a charge of stealing a plank valued at 345, Olaf Stromso, aged 40, was fined 40s at the Police Court to-day. Picture Hall Destroyed. —Fire destroyed a picture hall at Pawarenga. near Wfiangape, on Saturday evening. A film caught fire and the building was soon in flames, but no one was injured. Boy's Fall from Cycle. —As a result of falling from a bicycle in the Domain yesterday, Robert Cook was taken to hospital suffering from a broken collarbone. He is 16 years aid, and lives at 77 Eden Terrace. Pleased With Summer-time. —Manufacturers in Auckland decided at their monthly meeting yesterday that a letter congratulating Mr. T. K. Sidey, M.P., on the success of the Summer Time Bill, should be sent. Manufacturers' Gift to A.P.A. —The Auckland Manufacturers’ Association yesterday agreed to give a silver challenge cup, valued at about £25, for a class of three fat freezing lambs at the Auckland Metropolitan Agricultural and Pastoral Show. Farewell to Detective. —Last evening at the Auckland Police Station ActingDetective T. Carroll was presented with a canteen of cutlery from fellow members of the force. Chief-Detective J. Cummings made the presentation. Shunter Badly Injured. —L. J. Hayman, a shunter, was taken to hospital in a grave condition as a result of an accident in the Christchurch railway yards early this morning. He was found under a truck with injuries to his back and head.—Press Association.

Radio on Milford Track. —The Tourist Department has ordered a 200-watt Radiophone to facilitate communication on the section of the Milford track between Glade House and Lake Te Anau, where the almost inaccessible nature of the country makes the laying of telephone lines practically impossible.—Press Association.

Idle and Disorderly.— Apprehended on a charge of being an idle and disorderly person, Claude Hector McDonald made his appearance before Mr. Wyvern Wilson, S.M., in Hamilton, to-day. On the application of the police he was remanded in custody until Friday, pending further inquiries. He pleaded guilty to the charge of vagrancy and sentence was deferred.

School Swimming Awards. —During the 1926-27 swimming season the Mount Eden Club issued 257 school certificates. Of these, Mount Eden secured 40 learners’ and 7 proficiency; Maungawhau. 58 learners, 35 proficiency, and 18 merit: Kowhai Junior High School 69 learners’, IS proficiency, and 12 merit. The work was conducted under the supervision of Messrs. W. S. Adams and G. Foy.

Run-away Milk Cart.—A horse drawing a milk-cart bolted in Khyber Pass yesterday and galloped toward Newmarket, knocking down the verandah of the shop formerly occupied by Mr. A. W. M. Salaman. Two schoolboys standing underneath narrowly escaped injury. The horse was finally stopped at the foot of Mountain Road.

Delivered Paper on Sunday. —An interesting point in law was raised at the Magistrates Court at Palmerston North yesterday, during the hearing of a charge against William Patrick Casey of selling newspapers on a Sunday. The evidence showed that Casey delivered a paper at the office of an hotel, the purchaser having paid for U on Saturday. Decision was reserved. —Press Association.

Farm-worker’s Death. —The body of Albert Robinson, aged 26. who was employed on the farm of Charles Clarke, Lovell’s Flat, was found in a creek near the homestead yesterday afternoon. At an inquest held at Dunedin yesterday a verdict of found drowned was returned, but there was no evidence to show how he got into the water. — Press Association.

Woman Dragged by Car. —Mrs. Janies O’Neill, of Hopelands, was knocked over by a car driven by Mr. A. G. Stephens, of Hastings, in the main street at Woodville yesterday. She was dragged for some yards and picked up suffering from concussion, bruises and a gash in her hip. She was taken to the hospital, but her condition is not thought to be serious.—Press Association.
