GAMING COSTS MONEY
DALMATIAN FINED £25 26 PATRONS PENALISED SEQUEL TO RAID Marian Glavis, the Dalmatian proprietor of a gaming house, kept at 48 Victoria Street for the entertainment of his countrymen, was; fined £25 at the Police Court today. Twenty-six of his patrons were each fined £2. The arrest of the men followed a police raid on the premises last Saturday week. Mr. J. J. Sullivan, who appeared for accused, entered a plea of guilty on behalf of the proprietor and 25 of the patrons. The following: are the names of the men fined:—George Newman. John Best, Ante Bivich, Joe Katich. Jack Despot, Bert Ivil, George James Thomas. George Katavich, Andrew Botica, Ante Katavich, David Simon, William Bond. Harry Brewer. George Parkes, Mate Davich, Ivan Duzevich, William Jarr.es Bur man, Joe Jerkovicn, Mate Nizich, Joe Hirstich, Marno Jovich, Louis Devich, Joe Leticu, Steve Kostich, Ned Peko, Zack Antowevich, Frank Willis.ms and Joseph Resitar. Mr. Sullivan said that Glavis had been in New Zealand 22 years, and toe fact that only 6s had been found in the gaming room showed that the institution was not very prosperous. Four of the defendants made excuses for their presence on the premises, but Jack Pribicevich was the only one who convinced the magistrate, and the information against him was dismisse d. The case against Louis Ivan was held over until to-morrow to ascertain the effect that a conviction would have on his racing permit.
