Round the Churches
At the morning services at St. Matthew’s yesterday the preacher was Canon Grant Cowen. The solo in the anthem, “Seek Ye the Lord,” was sung by Master George Asher. The Methodist missioner, the Rev. C. G. Scrimgeour, spoke on the subject of “Closed Doors” at his evening evangelistic service. Next Wednesday, at 8 p.m,, a testimony meeting under the auspices of the First Church of Christ, Scientist, will be held at the Christian Science Hall, , Symonds Street. “Obstacles to Progress” was the subject taken by the Rev. A. Thornhill at the evening service at the Unitarian Church, Ponsonby Road. The service was broadcast from IYA. The morning and evening services at Edendale Presbyterian Church were conducted by the Rev. J. D. McKenzie. The Associated Churches of Christ held services at Ponsonby Road, Dominion Road, Onehunga, Richmond, Avondale, Mount Albert and Devonport. A Christian Endeavour Day was held at the Grange Road Baptist Church. Dr. J. F. Jones officiated at the communion service in the morning and in the evening the Rev. A. S. Wilson was the preacher. The Sunday afternoon meeting of the Y.M.C.A. was taken by Mr. Don Miller and members of the Young Men’s Division. The morning service at the Royal Oak Baptist Church was taken by Mr. J. Jensen, of the New Zealand Bible Training Institute. Mr. C. Boggis, of the New Zealand Baptist College, was the preacher in the evening. ♦ ♦ * Nurse Clayton was the speaker at the evening service at the 1.0.0. F. Hall, Pitt Street, the subject being “Spiritual Unfoldment.” At the Spiritual Scientists’ Church last evening an address on “The Third Heaven” was given by Mrs. HarrisRoberts.
