LISTENERS’ GRIEVANCES

DEPARTMENT SYMPATHETIC (Special to THE SUN.) WELLINGTON, Sunday. Delegates to the Radio Listeners’ conference at Wellington waited on the Secretary to the Post and Telegraph Department, Mr. G. McNamara, on Saturday to place before him the resolutions passed by conference. Mr. McNamara gave the representations favourable consideration. There was very little wrong with the New Zealand broadcasting stations, he said. Station 2YA might as well close down as far as Taranaki was concerned, but the station was improving, and adjustments were being made in its tuning, with beneficial results. Regarding interference Mr. McNamara said that the department was doing all possible. ForMhe present the new radio inspectors were to be confined to the cities, where the department wa3 making a raid on pirates and dealers not complying with the regulations. He approved of the suggestion that dealers be registered, in order to protect the public. Mr. McNamara said listeners could be assured that no political propaganda would go on the air. The formation of a Dominion Listeners’ League would be welcomed by the department and the Broadcasting Company, and the sooner it was formed the better for listeners.
