ROTORUA FOOTBALLERS
A SUCCESSFUL CLUB The complimentary dance and “five hundred” tournament tendered by the women’s committee to the Kahukura Football Club, held in Dixieland on Wednesday night, proved a huge success, 70 couples taking part in the dancing. The Monte Carlo was won by Mr. Hogg and Miss Roper. The “five hundred” tournament: drew 10 tables, the winners being Miss Pennington and Mr. Raethel.. The women’s travelling prize was won by Mrs. Heley, and Mr. Reke Rogers annexed the men’s. Mr. Stephenson, on behalf of the Rotorua Rugby Union, referred to the success of the team. During the season 12 games w.ere played, and a total of 203 points won, as against 30 scored against them. They were also successful in winning the Kozie Shield, Mclntosh Shield, Mitchell Shield, and Ingram Cup. A pleasing feature was the predominance of club colours during the evening. All club members turned out in full force in their blue and white blazers. Fancy paper hats, in blue and white, which were made by the women’s committee;, were distributed toward the end of the dance, with streamers and confetti. A waltzing competition drew a large number of entries, and after a keen contest it was won by Mr. H. Knox and Mrs. W. Walker. Mr. Fritzwilliams, on behalf of the Kahukura boys, thanked the women’s committee for the splendid assistance rendered the club, and the boys then gave them three cheers. Mr. Duncan Steele responded on behalf of the committee.
