ON A MAGIC SEA
In the magical blue of the summer’s night, Over the waves when the moon is bright, The elves go riding, so I’ve heard tell, On a fish, or a glistening sea-plane shell. Or, best of all, In a pearly car, Which the little sea-horses will take afar, To the Fairy Isles where the deep tides dream, And the towers of the Elfin Palace gleam. —Beatrice Emptage (aged 12).
