THE FAIRY
Into our garden a fairy came, And Golden Wings—that was her name— She sipped the honey from the clover, And then she danced the whole lawn over. From amid the flowers I watched her prancing, "Lightly, brightly, and always entrancing; Her golden curls on her shoulders fell, And her voice was like a silver bell. For a full half-hour she frolicked and skipped, Waving her wand, which was silvertipped . . . I moved; she looked; though I begged her to stay, She spread out her wings and flew away. —Kathleen Mulcahy (aged 11).
