New Record in Ladies' Golf

N.Z. CHAMPIONSHIP RESULTS AT PALMERSTON NORTH (Special to THE SUXJ PALMERSTON N., Friday. History was repeated in golf to-day, the ladies’ tournament, like the men's j at Hamilton early in the month, producing brilliant scoring, including a new record for the course. The weather was fine, and the course fast. A feature was the narrow wins of some of the leading players. Of the Aucklanders, Miss Culling had a narrow win from a newcomer. Miss Pharazyn, of Sunningdale, England, a much longer handicap player Miss Culling was dormy two, but her

opponent won the next two brilliantly, and Miss Culling had to win the next to go into the second round. Miss Payton, ex-Middlemore, and now of Rotorua, easily won from Miss K. Horton Titirangi, but Miss D. Horton, holder of both the Maungakiekie championships, with the narrow margin of 1 up, went into the second round. Miss F. Hamlin, and Miss Upton, both of Middlemore, went on to the second round, but Miss Laurenson and Miss Colebrook, Titirangi, Mi?s Cooper, and Miss Rathbone. Middlemore. went down. Mrs. Weston, of Miramar, holder of the Auckland ladies’ provincial title, went down to Miss Gladys Seifert, of Palmerston North, Miss Seifert being round in 79. which was "a course record. Attacks on the course record for ladies were several. Miss Brandon, of Wellington, coming in a little later with an 80, which had proved too good for Miss Rathbone, the promising Middlemore player.
