Raglan’s New M.P. Has Had Active Career
new member of Parliament teas born in Oamaru in 1870, and was educated at the Waimatc district High School, and at the Normal School, Christchurch. For a time he was a Salvation Army officer in different centres, and subsequently he followed the painting trade in Wanganui, where he was secretary of the Painters’ TJnion, representative of the Tramway Employees on the Tramway Appeal Board, and a member of the Board of Managers of the Wanganui Technical College. Fifteen years ago he began dairy farming at Matangi, where he has resided ever since. At the 1925 elections he was heavily defeated by the Hon. J. A. Young in the contest for the Hamilton seat. In later years he has been d prominent member of the Farmers’ Union, a member of the Matangi School Committee , Tamahere Road Board, and Central Power Board. His mother, aged 91, lives at Devon port with another son, the Rev. J. F. Martin, and followed the election with the closest interest.
