MUSICAL COMEDY
“BARBAROSSA OF BARBARY" The Howick-Pakuranga Musical Society produced the musical comedy, “Barbarossa of Barbary,” at the Public Hall, Otahuhu, on Wednesday night last. The attendance of the public was disappointing, as only a medium house greeted the company, but the society is to be congratulated on the splendid performance it gave, under the adverse conditions. The proceeds of the recital are to b€ equally divided among the churches of their districts. The principal piece was preceded by a short sketch entitled “Collaborators,” in which Miss Dagmar Jensen and Mr Clyde Hensen gave a goocl rendering. The various characters in the play were ably filled by the following: “Barbarossa,” Mr. R. F. Newton; “Commodore Decatur,” Mr. V. L. Bagnail; “Ferdinand,” Mr. P. Masses’; “Jim Crow,” Mr. G A- Newton; “Tingad,” Mr. G. Roberts; “Althea,” Miss Peggy Ledez; “Isabella,” Miss Sylvia Donnell: “Mulai Ahmed,” Mr. E. P. Rishworth; “Morn; do Castellaine,” Mr. Clyde Hensen; “Zuleika,” Miss Anita Roberts; slave girls, Misses Judkins, D. Jansen and Wagstaff; Spanish girls, Mrs. King, Misses Jansen, Newton, Petrie and Witt; solo Spanish dancer, Mrs. F. E. Smith.
The orchestra and choruses were under the able conductorship of Mr. A. J. T. Judkins, and the stage manager was Mr. V. L. Bagnall.
