Salvage crews were working wlthi the aid of searchlights, when the Billow, without warning, slid off the Natal and almost turned turtle, then surprisingly regained an even keel. Those of the crew who were oi< deck were thrown into the water. Four men, unable to scramble aboard, were rescued by a picket boat front H.M.S. Hood.
