SWIMMING
THE 1927-28 SEASON MOUNT EDEN CLUB’S MEETING The first indication of the approach of the swimming season for 1927-28 will be the annual meeting of the Mount Eden Swimming Club, which is to take place on Monday evening next.
According to ttm annual report the declared membership last season showed an increase over the previous season, the number on the roll being 111, consisting of 32 seniors and 79 juniors. There are 44 associate members, making a total of 155, and causing the club to rank as the second strongest in Auckland. Various members of the club took part in carnivals arranged by the sister clubs, and they met with a fair measure of success. The most prominent swimmer of the club was R. de Loree, who competed at every carnival during the season, and is the holder of two silver cups, these being the Cucksey and Weston Cups, for 440yds and 220yds. During the season 257 school swimming certificates were issued under the auspices of the club.
The balance-sheet and financial statements showed a loss on the year’s working of about £B. This could be attributed to the poor gates at the three carnivals held by the club, and to the increase in prize money given during the season. The club, however, was in a sound financial position.
