GRUELLING TEST
CYCLING CHAMPIONSHIP HAMILTON TO AUCKLAND DUNLOP ROAD RACE At Hamilton on Saturday at exactly 9.20 a.m., the Mayor. Mr. J. R. Fow, will say “Go” to the three limit riders, Reardon, Rhodes and Dean, 40min., in : the Dunlop North Island Championship road race. The finish will take place some six hours later at Alexandra Park, roughly at about 3.30 p.m.. where there will b* no charge made for admission. The handiicapper has set the b*rst ; judges thinking, his effort being a good one. The rider who will start favourite in the race will be A. Sutherland, who won this race last year. In looking over the handicap, the actual limit riders appear safe, but on 25 minutes is a bunch comprised of ; Lownes. Healey. Blythe, Slack, Rickman, Reid and Wilson, who will take some catching. Given a fine day t.he winner should be in this bunch. The 17min. and 12min. riders appear to be safe also, as the Smin. riders, Sutherland- Hill. Storey and Bennett, . are sure to overhaul them. The smin. bunch, Harcourt, Hayes and Bullott, are also safe, as Harcourt will probably not start, having had a very bad fall while training on the road last week. With four such good riders as Brewster (New Plymouth). Phipps (Rotorua), Prior and White, starting off scratch, anything can happen here. WHO WILL WIN? ’ To attempt to pick the actual winner | is asking too much of Velos, but the , six prize-winners may be found in Lowdnes, Reid, Francis, Henderson, Sutherland, Hayes and Prior. The race for fastest time and championchip should be between Prior (Auckland) ! and Brewster (New Plymouth).
