REFUSAL TO DRILL
CASE OF A. M. RICHARDS
AGAIN MENTIONED IN HOUSE
(THE SUN’S Parliamentary Reporter.) "WELLINGTON, Thursday.
The case of A. M. Richards, the divinity student whose application for exemption from military service was refused by an Auckland magistrate recently, was again mentioned on the floor of the House of Representatives to-day, when Mr. J. A. Dee, member for Auckland East, asked the Minister of Defence whether he had been aware that the Defence Department had decided to defend the application, and whether he had given his sanction for this action. The Minister of Defence, the Hon. F. J. Rolleston, said he possessed no knowledge of the attitude which the department was going to adopt over the case, nor was there any necessity for him to be consulted.
Mr. Lee mentioned incidentally that the objections of the Presbyterian Church were based on sincere religious grounds.
