“CANNOT ABOLISH ARBITRATION COURT”
EMPLOYER’S VIEW CONDEMNATION RESENTED I ENTIRELY disagree with the resolutions recently passed by Farmers’ Unions and other sections of the community who condemn the Arbitration Court, and on behalf of the Employers' Association I enter a strong protest,” said Mr. Albert Spencer at the Employers Association meeting to-day. Mr. Spencer continued; “At the same time we consider that the Arbitration Court can be considerably improved. There is no denying the extent of dissatisfaction from all over New Zealand, but until we evolve something better we cannot abolish the court. The employers have certainly good grounds to complain at some of the' recent findings of the court, and it is admitted that the operations of the court have latterly been of no benefit to employers or the community. “Employers’ associations Have been loyal supporters of the court and would be very sorry to see it abolished. At the same time we want justice and British fair play. During the past years we cannot find one case where an award has been made which has relieved employers in the matter of wages and conditions of hours worked. “The court requires a thorough overhaul from keel to kelson. I am of opinion that a thorough investigation should be made with a view to amendments and confining the court to its proper functions, which are to stop sweating and prevent strikes.”
