LIMITED DEMAND FOR FAT CATTLE

WESTFIELD SALE i HEAVY DEALERS’ OFFERINGS A shorter yarding of beef faced buyers at Westfield to-day. The quality, generally. was not high, and dealers accounted for a large section of the offering. Values were from par to slightly firmer than last week, though it was clearly evident that buyers had not unloaded last week’s commitments. BIDDING LACKED SPIRIT Both Northern and Southern grazier were presented, but, apart from one o two of the top-priced lines, the greate portion of the best-finished animals cam from near Auckland pastures. Northern offerings, for the most part showed signs of having been throug] the dip, and many again had been of their feed for two or three days. Thuswhile there were some big-framed cattl offered, they did not make the mone; given for beasts fresh from the pastures Top price of £ls 7s 6d was secured fo a line on account W. Vosper, Cambridge As is usual with this breeder, the ofiferinj was well finished, though the cattle wer not exceptional y big-framed. Up t £l4 15s was secured for another line o choice prime Morrinsville cattle on ac count of the Kcreone Estate. Dargaville cattle on account A. J. Pin layson, the worse of wear in the dip an on road, though big-framed and meat> made to £l2 ss. Lighter sorts from th same man made from £lO. Medium-weight bullocks on accoun George Proctor, Ohinewai, made fror £lO 17s 6d to £ll 12s 6d. Light and un finished bullocks on account of a Kalpar seller made to £9. The market for cow and heifer bee was erratic. Opening at slightly ad vanced rtLtes it soon fell back to abou last week’s parity. Buyers were not keer and there was a lack of spirit in th bidding. LIGHT AND UNFINISHED COWS

Dealers’ lines were well to the fore and the greater portion of the offering was light and only partially finished. About the best buying of the day was done on a line of Wintles, Taru. Small - framed prime young cattle, heifers from this seller, made to £ 15s.

The top price of the day, £9 ss, was secured-for two big-framed prime young cows sold early in the sale. Other better cattle were passed in at that figure toward the close.

d Big-framed, heavy, old cows made to £8 ss. Medium-weight heifers made to , £7 7s 6d. Choice, prime, small-framed , dairy heifers, made from £5 to £5 12s li 6d.

Compared with last week a slightly better tone prevailed in the calf section. No exceptionally heavy runners came forward, and the yarding comprised chiefly small and freshly-dropped calves. Extra choice vealers made £4 18s; prime vealers from £3 10s to £4 15s; medium, £2 18s to £3 Ss; light, £2 8s to £2 16s; small and freshly-dropped made from 6s to £2 4s.
