MR. CYRIL TOWSEY AT LAST MINUTE PLAYS j j ACCOMPANIMENTS FOR { MADAME ALDA j |. »- _ TRIBUTE FROM A DIVA A distinguished New Zealander sang to the accompaniment of an Auckland pianist last evening. Madame Frances Alda, who was making her New Zealand dehut at the Town Hall, had just sung an exceedingly difficult bracket of songs. “I am very pleased to-night to have associated with me anothei New Zealander, Mr. Cyril Towsey,” said the famous prima donna. "We have had only an hour or two together rehearsing." Madame referred to the songs which had just been sung and remarked: “it would 'ike to say that I have never had them played better.” “Mr. Rabinowitsh and I agreed to
disagree,” said Madame Alda, referring to her usual accompanist who had sailed bv the Niagara yesterday afternoon. His departure had been sudden and unexpected. Later in the evening, when a bouquet was handed to Madame, she bowed and smiling graciously handed it to Mr. Towsey. Ml-. Towsev will tour the remainder of * New Zealand with Madame Alda as solo pianist and accompanist.
