OUR ELDEST STATESMAN.—To-day is the 83rd birthday of the Rt. Hon. Sir Robert Stout, who in his day has been twice Premier of New Zealand, Attorney-General, Minister of Education and Chief Justice of New Zealand. On a number of occasions he has been Administrator of the Dominion (in the absence of the Governor-General) and at present he has a seat in the Legislative Council. Sir Robert was born in the Shetland Isles in 1844.
