QUESTION OF PROCEDURE HARBOUR BOARD’S TENDERS Alter calling for tenders for steel the Harbour Board place a Private order? Hutchinson raised an objection to procedure at the board’s meeting yesterday. ■Reporting upon the proposed purof steel for the breastwork at **«c!ianics’ Bay, the Purchasing and tores Committee stated that eight tenders had been received, the lowest Quotation being for Canadian steel at 2s 6d throughout, engineer had reported, however, deliveries offered were vague, that, probably the board’s London cou *<* land the steel at Auckland } h- cost at least as low as that of ***B lowest tenderer. The report recom - mended that as tlte steel was required jjlfntly the order should be placed trough the London agent by cable. Mr - Hutchinson said that the course did not seem right.
