One-Day Cricket

SUGGESTED FOR AUCKLAND A.C.A. DELEGATES DIVIDED The question of one-day cricket matches gave rise to some discussion at last night’s meeting of the Auckland Cricket Association. The subject was introduced by Mr. X. C. Sneddon, who said the playing of one-day matches here would brighten up the game, and do away with the dullness that sometimes existed on the second day, when the result was often a foregone conclusion. The coming into force of the Daylight Savings Bill provided an excellent opportunity to give it a trial. Mr. It. B. Lush said he trusted the Management Committee* would think [ the matter over very seriously before ;it took any action. It was a very revolutionary proposal, which would • probably alter the type of cricket altogether. , Mr. Carlton Hay said that an excellent suggestion had been pui forward in THE SUN, namely, tha: in ! the event of one-day matches being played, any unfinished games could i be finished during the week, with the 'extra daylight available. The proposal as a whole was well worth con- ! sidering. j The chairman, Mr. F. Earl, said that he personally considered the proposal would alter the whole character of the game, and would require very careful consideration. In any case, he thought tlmt the ultimate decision should rear with the Management Committee. After other members had spoken, it was decided that the matter should be submitted to t he Management Commiti tee to take what action it thought fit.
