CLUB-HOUSES WANTED
YACHTSMEN AND ROWERS The Victoria Cruising Club wants a new site for a clubhouse, and it wrote to the Harbour Board yesterday suggesting that instead of the land at New Street it should be accommodated on the western slope of the Freeman’s Bay reclamation. “A section there would cost them £ 500 a year, anyhow,” said the chairman, Mr. H. R, Mackenzie, “and we have a tender for the land. If objections are raised to the New Street land we will still be able to fix the club up with a site.” It was decided to inform the club that the section asked for was not available. St. George’s Rowing Club wrote asking the board to grant the club a site on the eastern reclamation wall for its clubhouse, preferably just inside the eastern breakwater alongside the site granted to the Akarana Y'acht Club. The request was referred to the board in oomnlittee.
