Shocked Council Cancels Licence
ART GALLERY INCIDENTS LEGAL ACTION PROBABLE ( Special to THE SUS.) CHRISTCHURCH, To-day On account of complaints received regarding the conduct of persons attending certain dances at the Art Gallery, the City Council decideo last night to cancel the licence issued to the gallery as a public building for the conduct of dances. The report of the committee was • > follows: “For some time past the committee has been receiving serious complaints as to the conduct of pers»m> who attend certain dances held at th Art Gallery. From inspections rpath it is felt that the complaints are justified, and the committee therefore - - commends that the licence issued n respect of the Art Gallery as a public building be cancelled.” As a result of this action the secretary of the Art Society says legal act on is probable to oppose the council s ruling. He contends that the council's letter in regard to the conduct of he public attending the dances is libellous and certainly a gross injustice.
