WARNING TO MARINERS. The Auckland Harbour Board warns masters of vessels and others that the red globular unlighted beacon marking the reef off Narrow Neck Beach, Rangitoto Channel, was knocked down on Saturday night. The position will be marked by a small red buoy until the beacon is re-erected. THE CANADIAN CHALLENGER. —The Canadian Challenger left Wellington at 4 o’clock yesterday afternoon for Auckland, according to advice received by the local office of the Canadian Government agency. She is expected to arrive here early on Thursday morning £o complete loading, before being dispatched again the next day for Halifax, via New York and Boston. M A RAM A AT WELLINGTON.—Advice received by the local office of the Union Company states that the passenger steamer Marama arrived at Wellington at 7.20 a.m. to-day from Sydney and leaves there at 3 p.ni. on Friday on her return trip to the New South Wales port. ULIMAROA ARRIVES AT SYDNEY. Cable advice received from Sydney reports the arrival of the Huddart, Parker ?^r e^, mer Ulimaroa this morning from Wellington. She is to leave the New Wales port next Friday at noon ror Auckland, where she is due the following Tuesdas^. MANUKA FOR M ELBO URN E.—The local office of the Union Company advises that the passenger steamer Manuka leaves Bluff to-day for Melbourne direct, where she is due next Monday. The Manuka sails from Melbourne on October 5 for Bluff. Dunedin, Lyttelton and Wellington and is due at the latter port on October 14. MAKURA FOR SYDNEY.—The local office of the Union Company' have been advised that the R.M.S. Makura, in continuation of her voyage from San Francisco via ports, leaves Wellington this afternoon at 3 o’clock for Sydney, where she is due next Saturday. MIDDLESEX AT LYTTELTON. The h ederal steamer Middlesex arrived at Lyttelton this morning from Auckland and leaves on Saturday for Timaru, Auckland and Wellington to complete her loading. She is due buck here on October 10, and is scheduled to sail finally from \A ellington on October 22 for London, via Panama. TAINUI TO COMPLETE.—The Shaw, bavill and Albion Company' advises that the liner Tainui is due at Napier to-dav irom V aikokopu, and Wellington oh Thursday, to complete her loading for Home. She is expected to leave the latter port; at daybreak on Sunday' for Southampton and London, via Panama. WESTMORELAND LOADING. Now at; Wanganui loading, the Federal steamer Westmoreland later proceeds to New Plvmouth, thence Wellington and Auckland

to complete. She is due here on October 6, and sails finally from this port on October 8 for London, via Panama. The New Zealand Shipping Company will act as the local agents. KIA ORA REPORTS.—The Shaw, Savill and Albion steamer Kia Ora has reported. by wireless to L. D. Nathan and Co., Ltd., that she will arrive from Liverpool at daybreak on Thursday. She was scheduled to arrive to-day. The vessel has general corgo from West of Great Britain ports for discharge at A.uckland, Wellington, Lyttelton arid Dunedin. PASSENGERS ON ORSOVA.—The following passengers for New Zealand are travelling by the Orient liner Orsova, which is due at Sydney from London on Thursday;—Mrs. Benge and child, Mr. and Mrs. A. E. RONA WITH RAW SUGAR.—With a full cargo of raw sugar from Fiji, the Colonial Sugar Company’s steamer Rona arrived at Auckland early this morning and berthed at 8 o’clock at Chelsea wharf to commence discharge. The vessel left S-uva at 10 p.m. last Wednesday and experienced fine weather for the greater part of the voyage. 'When nearing the New Zealand coast, however, cold southeasterly winds., accompanied by heavy rain, were encountered. Later the wind veered round to the south-west and blew strongly from that quarter. Otherwise the trip was of an uneventful nature. The vessel has 5,600 tons of raw sugar and 50 tons of sundries for discharge at this port, the remainder being for Australia Captain J. A. Wallis is in command and associated with him are the following officers: Chief, Mr. V. G. Parker; second, Mr. V. G. Stafford; third, Mr. W r . G. Balharrie; wireless operator, Mr. A. N. Wickin; chief engineer, Mr. ,T. Morrison; second, Mr. W„ H. Matthews; third, Mr. J. A. Freeman; fourth, Mr. E. J. Scott; fifth, Mr. R. W. Bark; chief steward, Mr. J. A. Telford. The local office of the Sugar Refinery advises that they hope to dispatch the Rona early next week for Sydney to complete discharge. MAHIENO ARRIVES. —Shortly before noon to-day the Union Company’s passenger steamer Maheno, Captain A. H. Prosser, arrived at Auckland from Sydney and was expected to berth at the Central Wharf about 1.30 p.m. The Maheno sailed from Sydney at 11.15 a.m. last Friday and experienced fine weather until nearing the New Zealand coast, when she ran into a sti'ong westerly breeze with cold weather. The vesesl brought the following passengers:— Saloon: Mesdames Harrington, Martin, Gribbin, Scully, Scott, Colnett, Jenkins, Purdy, Judges, Thompson, Maisey, Schlehnann, Jack, Marsden, Hardy, O’Brien, Misses Walker, Robins, Harrington, Lawson, Gordon, Jenkins, Potter, Cooper, Fergusson, Messrs. Mod tan, Moloja, Naldera, Canberra, Brungal, Maranoa, Macumba, Dimboola, Goulburn, Suva, Bombala and Mawatta. The Maheno is scheduled to leave Auckland at 11 a.m. on Friday on her return trip to Sydney. H.M.S. DIOMEDE TO SAIL.—The cruiser Diomede is to sail at 4 p.m. on Friday next for a cruise to Southern ports. She is to visit Akaroa, Dunedin, Lyttelton and Wellington, and fails in with the Dunedin at Wellington. Both the vessels are to leave the capital on November 23 for Auckland. NIAGARA SAILING.—In continuation of her voyage from Sydney the Union Company’s R.M.S. Niagara leaves Auckland at 2 p.m. to-day for Suva. Honolulu, "Victoria and Vancouver. , TOFUA FOR AUCKLAND.— The Union j Company advises that the Island passon- ! ser steamer Tofua is expected to leave j Suva on Thursday afternoon for Auckland, where she is due next Monday. MATAROA FROM HOME. —The Shaw, Savill and Albion liner Mataroa arrived at Auckland yesterday afternoon from London and Southampton via Curacao and Panama, and berthed at the. Queen’s Wharf to land her passengers, mails and part cargo. The vessel sailed from Loni don on August IS and called at Southampton the following day to embark passengers and mails. Southampton was left the same day and the ship arrived at Curacao on September 1, where fuel oil was taken on board. During the stay at Curacao the passengers had an opportunity to visit the city. The next day the Mataroa left for Panama which was reached at 6 a.m. on September 4. Transit through the canal was given the same day and the vessel finally cleared Balboa at 9.15 a.m. the following day. Except for the first four days when the Mataroa experienced strong head winds with rough seas, the weather was exceptionally fine. During the voyage the usual deck games, dances, etc., were held and thoroughly enjoyed, but the most interesting event took place when a baby was born three days out from Auckland. HAUTURU (6 p.m.), 270 tons, Donovan, for Raglan. The Ngapuhi, which left Onehunga last evening for New Plymouth ,is due to arrive back again at 7 a.m. to-morrow. The Arapawa is scheduled to leave this afternoon for Wanganui and Westport. She arrives back at Onehunga again toward the end of the week. The Hauturu left last evening for Raglan, Kawhia and Port Waikato. Arriving back again at 6 o’clock on Thursday morning, she is to be dispatched again at 2 p.m. the same day for Hokianga.
