RECORD BAD SUMMER ENORMOUS LOSSES CAUSED Sy Cable. — Press Association. — Copyrin hi Reed. 0.5 a.m. LONDON, Sunday. Summer by the calendar has ended. It has been declared as the worst Great Britain has experienced since IS7S. The sunshine was nearly 200 hours below the average, while the rainfall was abnormal. There were many heavy storms and floods, and nearly every outdoor public function was ruined. Enormous losses marked the season at the holiday resorts. Recent prolonged rains have caused widespread floods with extensive damage to crops and livestock in the North of England and many parts o' Scotland and Northern Ireland- Grea inconvenience has been caused to traffic of all descriptions along the whole of the London. Midland and Scottish Railway line from Glasgow to Crewe, a distance of over 250 miles. Wide areas of land are under water in the Lake district. The rain has not ceased for over 60 hours, and in some places the gauges have registered five to six inches. Hea> y rains continue throughout the British Isles. One of the cities which has been most affected is Edinburgh, many parts of which are badly flooded. Considerable distress has been caused. —A. and N.Z.
