THE CHANGING FACE OF DEVONPORT

THOUGH efforts were made to persuade the Borough of Devonport to purchase the home of the late Mrs. A. Buchanan, they were not successful. Portion of the historic hill, near Mount Victoria, is to be terraced and will be available for building purposes. A proposal to quarry the hill has been abandoned. The native trees planted by Mr. Buchanan many years ago have already been removed. The first purchaser of “the Hill” was Mr. S. Cochrane, one of Devonport’s early settlers.
