CHICKWHEAT’S HANDICAP Royal Game, Chickwheat and Beat Geste was the order of favouritism lor tho Ashburton Handicap. Flamtas Ray was first to begin, and running to the mile post the order was FlamißK Ray, Royal Game, Ophir and Beau Geste. At the six furlongs Flaming Ray increased her advantage to flu lengths, and led Margaret Birney, Ophir, Footfall, Royal Game, Chickwheat and Beau Geste, with Thorndah last. After passing the half-mile post Flaming Ray came back to her fieM, and before the top was reachef Ophir had run into the lead, closely followd by Flaming Ray, Royal Game sad Chickwheat. Ophir was first into th* straight, but Chickwheat came throNp fast, and inside the distance he headri Ophir and went on to win by tv» lengths from Ophir, with Footfall * neck away third. Rapier was fourth, with Margaret Birney, Beau Geste aW Royal Game heading the others.
