Last Look Round —
Wash - house on Fire.—Fire broke out in a wash-house adjoining - the house of Mr. Brennon, in Tennyson Avenue, Takapuna, about 9.30 p.m. on Saturday. The brigade turned out promptly and! easily extinguished the outbreak, a few boards only being damaged.
Stolen Car Recovered.—A car belonging to Mr. George Carmichael, which was taken from outside a theatre at Dannevirke one evening last week, was located in a scenic reserve near the borough, having gone over a cliff. It was suspended on a tree stump, and appeared to have been on fire. —Pre s Association.
“John’s Pence’' for Orphans.—The president of the Devonport Orphans’ Club, Mr. King, stated at the final night of the club on Saturday that the box for “John’s Pence’’ contained over £l2 when opened at the end of the season. Before the amount was handed over to the Devonport orphanage. a collection taken increased the. total to £l6 ss. The superintendent of the Presbyterian orphanages, the Rev. F. R. Jeffries, thanked the members of the club for their gift,
