SCHOOLS’ COMPETITION
CAPS FOR WINNERS PRESENTATION TO OTAHUHU BOYS A pleasing little function took place at Carlaw Park U-L. » forerunner to the big mterIsland League match. Mr. W. J. Hammill, late chairman of the Auckland Rugby League presented caps, given by an anonymous donor, to the Otahuhu team, which had won the primary schools’ League championship. “A gentleman who, perhaps, is not prepared to support a healthy, clean sport, disclaims that this team is composed of Otaluihu primary schoolboys,” * said Mr. Hammill. “But I would like to say that they are all primary school boys, and are resident at Otahuhu, and I want to say to the boys that while they play good, clean football, as they have done this year, they deserve every credit for their fine record in the competition. (Applause.) Mr. Hammill stated further that it was the first primary school competition inaugurated by the League. They had eight teams playing this year, and hoped to have more next season. He also mentioned that an anonymous donor had given medals for the wanning team in the present knockout competition. (Applause*.)
