Car on Fire. —An unattended fivesealer motor-car standing in Remuera Road, near the Newmarket railway workshops, caught on fire a little before 9 o’clock last evening. It was only slightly damaged.

Fewer Oysters This Year. —Five hundred fewer sacks of oysters were picked this season compared with last year. The season closed locally on Thursday. A number of fresh beds are to be put down during the off season.

Stockings Missed. —John George Dunnett. aged 29, who appeared at the Police Court to-day, charged with stealing three pairs of silk stockings valued at £1 17s 6d, was remanded till Thursday next. Other charges are pending.

Law Clerk's Disappearance. —A law clerk, aged about 18, failed to report for duty at the office of his employers, Messrs. Slater, Sargent and Dale, yesterday morning, but later in the day a letter was received from him through the post. The letter indicated where his body might be found. The police were notified and inquiries are being made.
