SOUTHERN JOTTINGS THE N.Z. CUP FAVOURITE (Special to TIJE SUX.J CHRISTCHURCH. Friday. Sarsaparilla has tightened up with tlie trip he had to Wellington, and will be expected to run better in future engagements. The Petone course brings about the undoing of many horst^s. A Coming Champion There is a crackajack of a colt in Southland. He is a three-year-old by Nelson Bingen from The Pigeon. Black Admiral’s Relative M. B. Edwards is working the gelding Brown Admiral, a brother to Black Admiral. Brown Admiral is a cleangaited pacer, but is yet very green. He was started at the Cheviot Trotting Club’s fixture, wheer he acted well for three parts of the jourr.ey. He is engaged at the Methven’s Club fixture. In Good Heart Holly Bell is big and bonny, and is pacing in phasing style. She will make her reappearance at Methven. Not Too Sound R. Allen is dodging the speedy Oriole about the roads. The gelding is threatened with unsoundness, and it is questionable if he will survive a preparation. Change of Quarters The big pacing gelding. The Pointer, is now under the care of J. Fraser. The Pointer is by Logan Pointer from Thelma, the 'lain of Wildwood Junior. He is a speedy pacer, but bangs his knees too often ever to be a topnotcher. Another Aussie to Arrive The Australian trotter Western Voyage recently purchased by a pal of W. J. Tomkinson, is expected at Addington in a few days. Western Voyage is not heralded as a champicn. Should Turn Out Good The South land-bred pacer Mate o’ Mine is a sturdy type and, judged by the resolute manner in which he does his work, he should make a good horse. Cup Favourite Cardinal Logan is at a short price for the New Zealand Trotting Cup. He is doing very well in his work. Coming Into Favour Black Admiral has been inquired for in connection with the Trotting Cup. The gelding is doing tip top, and all going well till the day he must have a big chance. Horses For Courses Good reports are in circulation rcgardng Talera, who is being freely discussed for r.ne big event. According to history he lias not performed as well at Addington as he has it Aucklanc.
