OLD, BUT SOUND
FORTY-EIGHT YEARS’ SERVICE During the renovation of some of the old buildings at Otahuhu, a newspaper dated 1879 w T as discovered, placed between the board’s of the building. One the planks removed was a large kauri one measuring Bx 4, and it was found to be as sound as the day it was built in, notwithstanding the 4S years it haa done duty, and the builder, Mr. J. Gunthorpe, was approached by a local miller for the purchase of the timber at a price very close to the present market value of kauri. The premises are being remodelled for Mr. J. S. de Montalk, who intends carrying on a poultry and produce mart. At present all the poultry of the district is forwarded to Auckland, so this venture will help to make Otahuhu a more self-supporting centre than it has been in the past.
