Levenside and Royal Doulton Win. The starters in the Malden Plate were two over the safety number, so the race was run in two divisions as previously arranged. Best backed of the 32 runners were the brackets Whaka King—Yaqui £420. Restaurant —Royal Doulton £ 395 and Levenside— Master Noel £240, and Valentino— Wyoming £lB2. In the first division Scaramouche, Whaka King, Royal Doulton, Master Noel, Yaqui, Edifice and Arinagour were the leading division soon after the start. At the five furlongs Whaka King was clear, and he ran past the five furlongs followed by Yaqui, Master Noel, Levenside, Edifice, Scaramouche and Charitaine. As they came round the home turn there was little between Whaka King and Yaqui, their closest attendants being Master Noel, Levenside, and Edifice, with a gap back to Arinagour. Whaka King was quickly beaten in the straight,, and Levenside came with a good into run to score from Yaqui by half a length. Whaka King was three lengths away third, and the next to cross the line were Master Noel. Edifice, Acushla, Charitaine and Simplicitas. After going a furlong in the second division the order of the leaders was Taurimu, Diamond Queen, Cynthia N, Brampton, Royal Doulton and Salamander. Diamond Queen led past the four furlongs, just in front of Brampton with Taurimu, Cynthia N, Royal Doulton and Wyoming next. Diamond Queen and Brampton were still together at the entrance to the straight, with. Royal Doulton and Wyoming coming through, and Taurimu, Cynthia N and Ash Tray next. Once in line Royal Doulton made her run, and finishing on won by a length from Restaurant, who was finishing fast, and with Wyoming four lengths away third. Diamond Queen was fourth, and was followed home by Cynthia N, Ash Tray and Good Boy. GREY LYNN HURDLE RACE Of £300; two miles. 5--KARAMU (W. J. Y’ork Abbey £1,068, Rahepoto £1.007, Kamehaineha £874 and Glenotus £ 486, carrying most money. York Abbey went out to make the pace from Blago. Karamu, Stonewall, Rahepoto and Kamehameha, but at the end of six furlongs Karamu took up the runring, leading past the stands from York Abbey, Rahepoto, Kamehameha and Blago. Karamu was still in charge crossing the top and into the straight, where he had a slight advantage over Rahepoto and Kamehameha. with York Abbey next and Glenotus coming. A dog at the last fence interfered with Kamehameha and then Y’ork Abbey, the latter falling, and in a good set-to between Karamu and Rahepoto the former won by a length and a-half. Kamehameha was another length away, \Yith Glenotus another length away fourth. Stonewall and Blago pulled up. MEMBERS’ HANDICAP Of £250; 6 furlongs. King Smock Scores Thirteen came out for the Members’ Handicap, best backed being Automne £1,231, Gold Acre £l,OOl, Gala Day £728, King Smock £659, and Day Guard £561. A good start saw Arch Queen in the front early, soon to be displaced, Value acting the role of

pacemaker when they settled down, followed by Gold Acre, Day Guard, Gala Day, Waltzer, Mosaic and Quincoma. This was the order past the four furlong post, with little change in the positions. Value piloted Day Guard into the straight, Waltzer, King Smock, Quincoma and Gala Day following, the last-named falling just as they straightened up. At the distance King Smock and Waltzer drew out, and in a good finish the former won by half a length. Day Guard was a couple of lengths away third, with Automne fourth. Then came Quincoma, Mosaic, Value, Arch Queen, Berinthia, Carinthia and Luxurious, with Gold Acre last. The second horse was at a big price.
