DISMASTED SCOW MOA
TOWED TO PORT THIS MORNING
QUICK WORK BY TUG
The scow Moa, which was dismasted in a gale on the East Coast last Saturday, arrived back at Auckland this morning, towed by the tug Simplon. The Moa’s plight was noticc*d on Sunday morning by the steamer Apanui. which took the damaged vessel to the Awanui Heads to await instruction® from Auckland. On Tuesday evening the small tug Simplon was dispatched to bring the Moa back to Auckland. When the tog arrived on the scene at 6 o’clock t»n Wednesday evening a hard north-east-erly wind was blowing, and in fac*» the swell it was found to be impessible to do anything that night. Next morning, however, a tow rope was secured and at 6 a.m. the two v€>ssels set out for Auckland. The Moa arrived in port just aft-jr 8 o’clock and was anchored off Wall. If the tide is high enough hsf owners, the Leyland O’Brien Timbs* Company, Ltd., hope to berth her at their wharf this afternoon to undergo repairs. Captain F. Jensen is master of tlw Moa. and Captain T. Scott controlkw the Simplon.
