PONSONBY CRUISING CLUB YEAR’S ACTIVITIES REVIEWED ELECTION OF OFFICERS There was only a fair attendance at the annual meeting of the Ponsonby Cruising Club held in the clubhouse last evening. Apologies were received for the absence of the president, Mr. A. Thompson, who was in Christchurch, and Mr. E. J. Kelly, owing to pressure of business. The report stated that during the season six racing days were arranged for launches and all clasees of yachts. The club desired to thank the Melanesian Mission for the use of the S.Y. Southern Cross as: flagship at the annual regatta. Various repairs to the clubhouse had been effected. Cash prizes and trophies to the value of £250 were allotted in addition to cups valued at £3OO. The balance sheet disclosed a stable financial position. The assets were shown at £614 and there were no liabilities. A balance of £lO4 stands to the credit of the Hewson Memorial Fund. The building fund shows a credit of £232 —an increase for the year of £3O. A credit of £l4 is held in the general account. The principal receipts were: Donations £ll9 and subscriptions £SO, and the chief item of expenditure, £133 for prizes. In moving the adoption of the report and balance sheet, Mr. W. S. Goodison, who presided, said that there had been a sharp falling off in entries, during the
season, in T.X. and Y. classes. Young yachtsmen were not supporting the sport as they had done in previous years. This might be due to counter-attractions ashore.
