TROTTING

NOTES AND COMMENTS
PROVINCIAL TOPICS LIVELY AT EPSOM Prior to the deluge which fell on Tuesday afternoon, ttie track at Alexandra Park was in nice order for fast work, and a few trainers seized the opportunity to set their charges a more strenuous task than usual. There were one or two interesting bouts decided before the “diought broke,” but on Wednesday the caretaker wisely hoisted the sign “No Admission” on the training track. Attractive Work-out A pleasing work-out was effected by the two square-gaiters, Wild Nut (Geo. Webb) and My Junior (Geo. Stubbs) over a 12-furlong journey. Both trotted solidly throughout, and there was not a great deal between them at the finish. Here My Junior was eased, but Webb continued with Wild Nut, who, when he found it was
a solo effort, left his feet and refused to go right for nearly a furlong. Standing Up To It There has been a suspicion that My Junior would not stand up to solid work, but so far the son of Wildwood Junior has done everything asked, without showing any signs of leg trouble. Owner-trainer Stubbs was pleased with the run on Tuesday, but he expressed even greater pleasure that the black trotter had come through the ordeal scathless. He pulled up as sound as a bell, and there is now a good chance of him seeing the races.
A, Tough Old Nut Although he is getting well on toward his majority, old Wild Nut gave as much check as a lot of the younger ones and he is certainly giving trainer Webb every enrouragement to keep him in the business. The Nut Ansel gelding did not have a prosperous season last year, only securing one third price, out of 14 starts. He has been on a hard peg for an old chap, and particularly at country fixtures he Is giving away big starts. With the tighr. limits he may do better. Displaying More Vigour It was a pleasure to see tie big son of Logan Pointer —Duchess of Rothschild putting plenty of vim into his work, and In fact he looked as if b* 1 was prepared to take on anything that came along. He is a good cut of a pacer when under way, and there should be a good race or two in him when he makes up his mind to give it a go. If he continues in his present frame of mind his prospects will be rosy.
