“PROPHECY” ENDS IN COURT CASE
SCIENCE AND COMMERCE AN ASTROLOGER FINED KIDNEY trouble was prophesied for one Sutherland when he wrote to Mercario, an astrologer, who allied science with commerce. It was the following advertisement that placed Sutherland in possession of the pleasant intelligence: MERCARIO, Astrologer, P.O. Box 2, Wellesley St.—Why not have your horoscope cast? Write for particulars. Sutherland wrote -for particulars, and enclosed 10s for a horoscope. To-day, at the Police Court, Mercario, under the less picturesque name of Thomas McNichol, was charged with fortune-telling. Chief-Detective Cummings said that the “astrologer’s” letter told Sutherland that he was likely to meet with difficulties during the year, and might go on a sea voyage. He was also going to suffer from kidney trouble. Tlie letter, which ran to ten pages, had three Zodical charts, and ended with the sentence: “If there’s anything you’re not clear about, drop me a line.” Mercario was fined £5.
