NEW PLYMOUTH'S HOMAGE TO BEAUTY
“MISS N.Z.” FINALISTS (Special to THE SUN.) NEW PLYMOUTH, Friday. Business operations were completely suspended for an hour yesterday when thousands of townspeople, headed by the Mayor, Mr. F. E. Wilson, greeted the ten “Miss N.Z.” finalists on their arrival by car from Wanganui. New Plymouth favoured Miss Hale Austen and, next: to her, Miss Billie Andreasson, Miss Hazel Spiers, Miss Hildred Graham, Miss Leon McCall, and Miss Vera Hodge, in that order. The aggregate list was not agected by the night’s voting: First. Miss Bale Austen (“Miss Otago”). Second: Miss Vera Hodge (Maid of Honour to “Miss Otago”). Third: Miss Hazel Spiers (“Miss Wellington”). Fourth: Miss Leon McCall (“Miss Canterbury”). Fifth: Miss Billie Andreasson ("Miss Auckland”). Sixth: Miss Hildred Graham (Maid of Honour to “Miss Auckland”). Seventh: Miss Pat Smidt (Maid of Honour to “Miss W ellington”).
Eighth: Miss Margie Cameron (Maid of Honour to “Miss Southland”).
Ninth: Miss Winnie Tonkinson (“Miss Southland”). Tenth: Miss Jane Kinsey (Maid of Honour to “Miss Canterbury”).
