HOW’S THIS?

Fitz Lough hit his tee shot at the “cliff” hole at Long Reef far out to sea. His second also disappeared in that direction. A third ball was played and landed near the green. On looking over the cliff he found that the second ball was suspended in some scrub. Climbing down, he played two shots at it, but only succeeded in hitting it halfway up the face of the cliff, from where it joined his first ball in the ocean. That was five strokes played. He then chipped his third ball up to the pin and holed it out in three—(.bogey 4). On reaching the clubhouse he sought advice. and was told he had halved the hole. His partner took five. It appears that over the cliff is out of bounds, and Lough’s two shots at the suspended ball didn’t count against him. He was in in three with his last ball, which, plus two strokes for the , first balls played, gave him his five.
