PARLIAMENT OFFENDS DICTATOR OF POLAND
TIRED OF OPPOSITION ADJOURNMENT OF HOUSE By Cable.— Press Association.—Copyright WARSAW, Tuesday. The Polish Parliament reassembled to-day. A Bill to prevent the Government from evading the decisions of Parliament by stopping their promulgation in the official gazette was read a second time. The Premier. Marshal Pilsudski. returned unexpectedly from a watering place and said he would not tolerate dictation from Parliament. He then issued a decree adjourning it. The members greeted the announcement with cries of "Cowards" and booing. It is stated that the Premier had grown tired of the persistent rejection by the Diet of the Press Control Bill, its frequent motions of censure, and its introduction of a Bill to prohibit legislation by decree. After his sudden return he obtained the President's sanction to adjourn the session until October 20.
The conjecture now is whether the resentment against Pilsudskis dictatorship will crystallise into action and force a dissolution.—Sun.
The Republic of Poland was proclaimed in 1918 and its independence; guaranteed by the Treaty of Versailles. The legislature consists of a Diet and of a Senate. Since the coim d'etat which was effected by Marshal Pilsudski in May. 1926. the Constitution has been altered and the President given power to legislate by decree when the Diet is not sitting.
