TIVOLI

“DOWN THE STRETCH” “Down the Stretch,” King Baggot’s Universal-Jewel production to be shown to-night at the Tivoli Theatre, depicts life behind the scenes at one of the largest race tracks and is one of the most entertaining pictures of the year. “Down the Stretch” is a story of a jockey, excellently portrayed by Robert Agnew, who in the face of almost impossible odds, wins the hand of the girl he loves, Marian Nixon, and extricates himself from a maze of befuddled circumstances. There are no melodramatic circumstances., no mortgage to be paid off, but the entire picture is chock full of real human interest and heart throbs.

King Baggot has gone to great length to get realism in this picture; instead of the usual studio horse race, the entire cast went on location at the Belmont race track and some of the fastest race horses in the country were borrowed from their owners and trainers for tile shots. Lady In Black, the mare ridden by Agnew, is one of the best two-year-olds in the country. In addition to Agnew and the charming Miss Nixon, the cast embraces a number of featured players, including Ward Crane, Otis Harlan, Virginia True Boardman and Ena Gregory. “Down the Stretch” should play to capacity houses throughout its run. ‘Arizona Bound,” featuring Gary Cooper, will also be screened at the Tivoli.
