RELIGIOUS EXERCISES BILL PETITION TO PARLIAMENT ('THE SUN’S Parliamentary Reporter j WELLINGTON, To-day. As the appointed spokesman for the archbishops and bishops of the Roman ! Catholic Church in New Zealand, the ; Blight Reverend Henry William Cleary, Roman Catholic Bishop of Auckland, has petitioned Parliament against the Religious Exercises in Schools Bill, j Bishop Cleary contends that the Bill, if passed, would inflict grave wrongs upon conscientiously-objecting taxpayers, teachers and pupils, as he j can show* by fresh evidence which has comparatively recently been made
available to him, and which has not hitherto been brought before Parliament. He asks to be heard before any committee to which the Bill may be referred. The petition, which was presented by Mr. H. Atmore, Nelson, to-day, was referred direct to the Education Committee. I
