HINTS BY “HEADLIGHT”

A 1914 Reo misfired, sometimes on one cylinder and sometimes on another. At times the engine was hard to start. The trouble continued for a period of two or three weeks until one day the engine did not run. The owner had parked the car down town and had to send for help. This could have been electrical, mechanical or fuel trouble. It was electrical, and some of the possibilities were a loose connection, a short circuit, a defective ignition coil, a stuck breaker lever or breaker points set too

close. It was a defective ignition coil. When the coil was tested the high tension winding was found to be shorted. Since repairs for this trouble could not be made, a new coil was installed which overcame the difficulty.
