CARTER’S CAR AND DAMAGED BRIDGE

RESPONSIBLE PARTY TO PAY The incident early this month, when Carter the Great’s car was stolen and badly damaged by one of his employees, was recalled at the meeting of the Manukau County Council this morning. The car was taken on an earlymorning joyride, a.nd the driver, failing to negotiate a rather sharp turn, crashed into the bridge spanning the Papakura stream. As a result the bridge was damaged to such an extent that temporary measures for the safety of the travelling public had to be taken immediately.

This morning the engineer, Mr. J. R. Page, reported that the bridge had been permanently repaired, and that steps were being taken to collect the cost from the party responsible before he left the Dominion.
