OLYMPIC GAMES
N.Z. REPRESENTATION COUNCIL TO LAUNCH APPEAL :o THE SVX ) WELLIN'! TON. Monday. At the end of the month the appeal of the New Zealand Olympic Association for £20.000 will be launched. The association seeks this amount, since with interest accumulating during four years between the Olympic gimes, it will be sufficient to ensure the dispatch of a New Zealand representative team to the Games almost indefinitely. Some donations from other associations are likely to be required if a large team is to be sent, but the nucleus will be already there. Already 33 nations have entered for the next games at Amsterdam, and it is probable that by the time nominations close there will be at least 40 nations competing. Thus, the next Olympia is likely to be the greatest on record. Further, despite the fact that Now Zealanders sent away have been meeting the world's best, our representatives in the past have never failed to reach at least a s?mi-final. With this knowledge, the association has every confidence that the amount needed will be obtained next year.
It is intended to send a New Zea land rowing eight to Amsterdam, i
funds will permit. The decisive wins of New Zealand oarsmen in the Commonwealth and the times recorded by them under different conditions, justify the belief that our oarsmen will be able to hold their own in the highest company. Besides these men, there will be from four to six athletes and swimmers, so that the team which
pic contests will be more than twice as large as any which has sailed before.
